Lilac Fire Update: Carlsbad Shelter Closed; Fire Containment Now at 20 Percent
CAL FIRE reports the Lilac Fire is now 20 percent contained and remains at 4,100 acres.
The fire has burned 105 structures and damaged 15. Damage
assessment will continue today in areas burned by the fire. The cause
of the fire remains under investigation.
Shelters:
The Carlsbad shelter is now closed and about 180 people remain at the following shelters, which remain open:
- Palomar College, 1140 W Mission Rd, San Marcos, CA 92069
- East Valley Community Center, 2245 E Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92027
- Bostonia Park and Recreation, 1049 Bostonia St, El Cajon, CA 92021
Road Closures:
Roads within the area under mandatory evacuation are still closed, including Highway 76 from Interstate Old Highway 395 and Via Monserate.
Animals:
The County?s Department of Animal Services is available to assist residents who wish to pick up large animals sheltered at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Individuals who dropped off their own animals just need to present the animal?s check-in slip to a DAS employee. If you did not drop off your own animal, please contact a DAS employee at the fairgrounds for assistance.
Red Flag Warning:
Although Lilac Fire conditions continue to improve, safety officials urge people to stay alert and prepared with Santa Ana winds forecasted to increase today and tomorrow. The County remains under a red flag warning through 8 p.m. Sunday, and the fire risk is extreme.
