Alert San Diego App Frequently Asked Questions
When you install the Alert San Diego Mobile App and enable push notifications, you will receive audible alerts about emergencies in San Diego County.
Notifications may include:
• Evacuation warnings and orders
• Shelter-in-place directives
• Emergency advisories (e.g., tsunami, extreme heat)
• Updates on shelters, recovery resources, and more
All alerts are also listed under the Incidents List on the app and website. Notifications are sent to your device regardless of the incident’s location.
To get alerts specific to your area, register at:
1. Open the Alert San Diego app.
2. Tap the Settings icon in the bottom right corner.
3. Tap Notifications (first option on the list).
4. If it says Status: Disabled, tap that area.
5. Tap Agree to accept the Terms and Conditions.
6. Turn on Allow Notifications — the toggle will turn green.
7. Go back to the Settings page — the Notification status should now say Enabled.
Here are step-by-step instructions for both iOS and Android users to set up a default email app/address, which is necessary for using features like “Contact Us” or “Share This App” in a mobile application.
iOS – Set Default Email App (iPhone/iPad)
1. Install your preferred email app, if not already installed (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail).
2. Open the Settings app.
3. Scroll down and tap the name of your email app (e.g., "Gmail").
4. Tap Default Mail App.
5. Select your preferred app from the list.
Once set, the app will open automatically when you use “Contact Us” or “Share This App.”
Note: The Mail app that comes with iOS is set as default unless changed. Make sure your email account is added in your chosen app.
Android – Set Default Email App
1. Install your preferred email app (e.g., Gmail, Outlook) if not already installed.
2. Open Settings.
3. Tap Apps or Apps & notifications, then Default apps.
4. Tap Email app.
5. Choose your preferred email app from the list.
Your selected app will now open when tapping “Contact Us” or “Share This App.”
Note: Make sure your email account is signed in within the chosen app.
