Poinsettia Fire Updates, Some Evacuation Orders Lifted

The City of Carlsbad provided a new damage estimate to an 18-plex multi-family unit (updated from an 8-plex unit), a commercial unit and eight single family homes. Total damage is estimated at $18.5 million.

The City of Carlsbad also announced that evacuation orders have been lifted and residents may return to the following areas:

  • Area east of El Camino Real, south of Alga Road. Recommended route is westbound on Alga from Melrose or northbound on El Camino Real from La Costa
  • Aviara Parkway from Poinsettia to Ambrosia. Recommended route is from the west, traveling eastbound on Poinsettia to Aviara Parkway.
  • Area south of Aviara Parkway
  • Following streets North of Aviara Parkway: Blackrail, Nightshade, Tohee, Cormorant and Baccharis
  • All hotels on Palomar Airport Road near the airport are open

The Westfield Plaza Camino Real temporary evacuation point is being closed. Those needing shelter are asked to head to Calavera Hills Community Center, located at 2997 Glasgow, or La Costa Canyon High School, located at 1 Maverick Way. Small animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits are accepted at Calavera Hills Community Center only. Additional shelters for large animals and livestock are listed on the County of San Diego emergency website.
