Camp Pendleton Evacuation Orders Lifted

Camp Pendleton officials reported that evacuation orders have been lifted for all areas of the base.

The Tomahawk, San Mateo and Las Pulgas fires, collectively known as the Basilone Complex, on the Marine Corps base have together burned 23,000 acres, officials advised. That equals about 18 percent of the base?s area, according to the latest assessment.

The Tomahawk fire stands at 6,500 acres burned and 93 percent contained.

The Las Pulgas fire has burned 15,000 acres and is 42 percent contained.

The San Mateo Fire has burned 1,500 acres and is currently listed as 55 percent contained.

The Las Pulgas and Cristianitos Gates are open for normal operations. Las Pulgas Road is closed in both directions.

Ammunition Road on Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook will remain closed throughout the weekend, but is scheduled to open for regular traffic starting at 12:01 a.m. early Monday morning.

In addition, officials reported that Cloverleaf construction at the Main Gate has been completed. The overpass and all ramps are open.

The following facilities will operate on a normal schedule starting Sunday, May 18: 52 Area Fitness Center, 22 Area Fitness Center, and 53 Area Fitness Center and Single Marine Program.

Marine Corps Community Services plans to open the Golf Course and Paintball Park Sunday, May 18.

All facilities that were opened Saturday, May 17 will remain open Sunday, May 18, as well.

The causes of the fires are under investigation.
