Brawley Earthquake Update from Cal EMA

Following the August 26, magnitude 5.5 earthquake in Brawley, the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) has conferred with scientists representing the California Geological Survey, US Geological Survey, Cal Tech and the Southern California Earthquake Center to review today?s activity and discuss this region?s history and potential.
Based on these discussions, Cal EMA is advising the City of Brawley and Imperial County that an increased likelihood exists for continued seismic activity for at least the next 24 hours, that this activity could involve earthquakes as large as, or somewhat larger than, the August 26 magnitude 5.5 earthquake, and could cause damage ? particularly to older structures.
Additionally, residents of Imperial, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties may feel additional earthquakes, and seismic swarms of this nature can continue, although diminish in magnitude and frequency, over the next several weeks.
